Miami Springs newspaper suspends publication amid coronavirus economic collapse

The River Cities Gazette announced Thursday that it has temporarily suspended publication of its newspaper due to COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus.

A longtime Miami Herald news partner, the Gazette has served the communities of Miami Springs, Virginia Gardens and Medley for about 40 years.

“With all the business closings, the economics make it impossible to continue with the smaller circulation weekly issues,” said Gazette publisher Tom Curtis, who was part of the undefeated 1972 Miami Dolphins Super Bowl team.

Curtis hopes to publish another Gazette issue on April 23.

“We will resume our regular publication schedule when the businesses reopen and the war against the coronavirus has been won,” Curtis said.
