Florida State’s first practice in full pads features good energy, lacks consistency

Florida State’s first practice in full pads drew mixed reviews from coach Jimbo Fisher.

Fisher was pleased with the Seminoles’ energy, and he enjoyed some big plays from the offense and defense. But Fisher found the team’s consistency — one of his favorite buzzwords — leaving something to be desired.

“We just didn't play with consistency,” Fisher said.

“And I hate to say that because that's one of the first times I've said that in a long time. But that's the facts of it.”

The fifth-year coach said that FSU’s missteps were typical of this time of year. But he didn’t allow for any preseason growing pains to serve as an excuse for sloppiness.

“I don't ever expect (mistakes),” Fisher said. “If you expect them, you allow them to happen. I don't ever expect them, but you've got to deal with them.”
