Depth an issue for Florida Gators
Coach Will Muschamp called Florida’s depth along the offensive and defensive lines his principal concern heading into the season opener.
“I feel really comfortable probably with seven guys right now,” he said. “We need to have eight or nine. That’s a critical issue. … We have a huge drop-off because of the line of scrimmage with the second group.”
Muschamp also expressed uneasiness with communication in the secondary and the backup quarterback battle.
Florida has five true freshmen competing for playing time at defensive back, and two first-year quarterbacks have shared reps with the second-team offense. Former Miami Booker T. Washington star Treon Harris had a sharp week of camp, but the athletic signal caller continues to battle with ballyhooed prospect Will Grier for the No. 2 job.
