There was rock and wrestling back in the day. Now we’ve got rap and wrestling.
Miami rapper Denzel “Zeltron” Curry battled Atlanta rapper J.I.D. in a rap-off in the main event inside a pro wrestling ring of Red Bull Zeltron World Wide on Saturday, Feb. 29 at the Magic City Innovation District in Miami.
Dada 5000, a former street fighter and MMA combatant from Miami, introduced that main event, before an energetic sold-out crowd.
The popular event also included wrestling matches with local indie pro wrestlers via Israel Cantu; DJs spinning music before, during and after matches; ring girls; a custom built stage with ringside area and plenty of Red Bull signage, even above the ring.
Denzel Curry is a long-time pro wrestling fan, and his music was featured in a big WWE event recently. “ RICKY” by Denzel Curry was the theme music for WWE NXT War Games 2019 in November.

The rap-off followed and also featured surprise guests like Bas and Johnny Venus (Earthgang).
An old school style pro wrestling poster, designed by Ingrid Schindall of Nocturnal Press in Fort Lauderdale, was an added bonus, too. Schindall along with Assistant Printer Leah Roobin printed posters outside the venue and gave them to patrons.
About Red Bull Zeltron World Wide
Conceptualized by Curry -- a lifelong pro wrestling fan and ultra successful rapper -- Red Bull Zeltron World Wide is a wrestling-inspired live music experience unlike anything else. Artists step into a pro wrestling ring and go head-to-head in a rap blowout, attempting to one-up each other in a showcase of next-level lyricism and showmanship.
Brought to life together with Red Bull, the performance format welcomes the freshest vanguards of hip-hop into the ring to go head-to-head for a five-round bout. Prior, pro wrestling matches with local indie wrestling talent get the crowd ready for the main event.
Here is my audio interview with Denzel “Zeltron” Curry, who talks Red Bull Zeltron World Wide Series, Miami, JID, NXT, Triple H, Scotty 2 Hotty, R-Truth and more.
Red Bull Zeltron World Wide in Miami served as a special homecoming for Curry, a Carol City-born rapper.
The concept for the event also birthed in Miami with Red Bull in 2018 through an event that saw Curry as his alter ego Zeltron go head-to-head against New York’s Flatbush Zombies for an unforgettable showcase of punk-rap style. Red Bull Presents: Zeltron vs. Zombies.
It has since become a series, Red Bull Zeltron World Wide. In November it occurred as part of Red Bull Music Festival Atlanta. That event saw Curry in the ring against Joey Bada$$.
Following the exciting rap battle, Curry announced onstage the continuation of the series with stops in Miami (Feb. 29), Oakland/San Francisco (March 20) and New York in 2020.
FYI: In light of the current concerns from health authorities and the order issued by The City of San Francisco regarding event cancellations for the next two weeks, Red Bull Zeltron World Wide in San Francisco on March 20 is canceled.
